Your Favourite Activity, Game or Sport

Dear Grade Fives!

Before we begin, I want to remind you about opening and saving your blog comments. First, open your documents using the file folder along the bottom of your desktop. Keep all of your blog responses on one page. After saving and closing your word document, reopen and check that it is still there.
Today: In a complete paragraph, please tell me about your favourite activity, game or sport. Be sure to respond using a complete paragraph (topic sentence, at least three support sentences, concluding sentence).

Note: you must listen to your paragraph before you have someone else edit your response.
Tomorrow, you will edit your response, listen to it, and have a peer edit it as well. When you have made all of your corrections, your will post it. When it is ready, you will copy your blog and post it as usual. You may want to have two windows open side-by-side, one with the blog letter and one being your word document.
As always, I look forward to reading your responses!

The Human Body

Dear Grade Fives!

Just as you did last week, you will take two days to complete your response.
Today: In Science, you have been learning about how the human body works. In a complete paragraph, please tell me what you have learned so far.
Tomorrow, you will edit your response and have a peer edit it as well. When you have made all of your corrections, you will post it. When it is ready, you will copy your blog and post it as usual. You may want to have two windows open side-by-side, one with the blog letter and one being your word document.

Just a reminder that a paragraph contains:
    a)  topic (promise) sentence: what you promise to tell the reader about
    b) at least three support sentences (at least): specific examples or details about your topic
    c)  concluding sentence: where you remind the reader what you promised to tell the reader

In Flanders Field

Hello Grade Fives!
This week, at our Remembrance Day assembly, our class will recite the famous Canadian poem ‘In Flanders Field’. In preparation for our presentation, you will listen to the poem and read about when it was written. Please use the following links to become more familiar with when the poem was written, the author, and the poem itself. This week you will not be responding to the blog.

In Flanders Field
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow

In Flanders fields.
John McCrae
